10 Reasons To Be Excited For WOS Wrestling!

10 Reasons To Be Excited For WOS Wrestling!

It’s been 20 months since the WOS pilot
aired in late 2016 and 30 years since the original aired on Saturday afternoons. Much has changed since WOS was on TV every
week back in the 80s, and the nation is about to be introduced to a whole new generation
of British wrestling superstars. The confirmed roster features a mixture of
incredible high flyers, hard-hitting brawlers, technically gifted mat wizards, and terrifying
superheavyweights. There truly is something for everyone. And here are just some of the reasons to get
excited about the weeks to come. 10. British Bulldog Jr. Continues A Legacy
The late Davey Boy Smith, better known to fans as the British Bulldog, is one of British
wrestling’s all-time greats. And his legacy will be continued by his son,
the 6’5”, 260lbs powerhouse Davey Boy Smith Jr.
Smith Jr. is a decorated athlete in his own right, having held championship gold at an
elite level around the world. The New Japan Pro Wrestling regular brings
a degree of polish and international flavour to the WOS roster that few can match. Which is another way of saying, he’s going
to hit people really, really hard. 9. The Next Generation Of British Athletes
Whatever the medium, be it football, movies, music, professional wrestling – or YouTube
comments sections – it’s always satisfying to say you were there first. I liked it before it was cool. And we’ll all get the chance to do that
with WOS, who are about to showcase the next generation of top British wrestlers – like
masked marvel Robbie X, Liam Slater bringing elements of old school technical mastery courtesy
of his training with the great Marty Jones and Gabriel Kidd, who’s a throwback to the
no frills grapplers of a bygone era. But while those are all new faces, ITV viewers
will probably recognise the next one… 8. Reality Bites
As former Love Island star Adam ‘Flex’ Maxted is also on WOS’ roster. The self-styled ‘Most Handsome Man In Wrestling’
from Belfast, Ireland came fourth on Love Island in 2016. Does Maxted have what it takes to make it
in wrestling? We’ll have to find out. Although he’s definitely already got the
tan sorted. 7. The Women’s Revolution
One of the key differences from the last time WOS was on our screens is the emergence of
women’s wrestling. The original show never aired a women’s
singles match, and that’s a wrong that’ll be righted with the exciting new WOS women’s
division. The 2016 pilot already saw Scottish superstar
Viper defeat Alexis Rose, and now Viper will be joined this time around by Bea Priestley,
Kay Lee Ray, Ayesha and Kasey Owens, a who’s who of Britain’s female wrestling scene. 6. The Aerial Assassin Lands In WOS
WOS will also feature one of the best wrestlers in the world right now, and sometimes best
wrestler just outside the world, in the atmosphere, on account of how ridiculously highflying
is – Essex born, 25 year old Will Ospreay. After winning New Japan’s prestigious Best
of the Super Juniors tournament in 2016, and then their Junior Heavyweight title, he now
has his aerial assassin sights on WOS. 5. Surprise! Surprise! The pilot delivered plenty of surprises, be
it the show’s first women’s singles match, the British wrestling legends sat at ringside,
or the unscheduled appearance of British Bulldog Jr. in the battle royal main event. Expect more surprises for the new series. But what could it be? New roster members that haven’t yet been
revealed? Special match stipulations? Or perhaps even a completely new type of match
never seen before? 4. A Showcase For Britain’s Finest
The WOS roster is comprised of British wrestling’s finest talent – with the likes of Joe Hendry,
Nathan Cruz, Martin Kirby and Rampage tearing up rings around the country for years. Not literally, but in the case of Rampage,
I have no doubt he totally could. It’s incredibly rewarding to see those you’ve
followed live to finally get the exposure they deserve on the national stage. 3. Modern Legends Receive Their Dues
British wrestling’s revival has been a long and winding road. The industry may be thriving in 2018 but that’s
thanks to three decades of hard work, struggle and dedication from a generation of forgotten
greats. Doug Williams and Alex Shane were two of those
that paved the way, laying the foundations for the current scene. Williams became British wrestling’s most
successful export of his era with spells in Impact Wrestling, Ring Of Honor and Pro Wrestling
NOAH. While Shane’s FWA promotion catapulted the
British scene into the modern era. Both men are set to be integral figures in
the WOS return, with the evergreen Williams actually an active member roster and Shane
returning to his commentary role. 2. Grado Defending The WOS Title
The pilot episode saw Stevenson born Grado being crowned WOS Champion, but now he’s
got a whole new roster of challengers trying to take it from him. Grado comes into the new series with a target
on his back. He’ll need to draw upon every ounce of experience
from his 14-year career to keep hold of his treasured title. 1. Stu Bennett’s Impact As WOS Executive
We’ll have to see whether WOS Executive Stu Bennet will be on Grado’s side or not. But fair or not, Bennett is still one of the
most intimidating wrestling authority figures of all time, standing at 6 foot 9 inches tall,
weighing 240lbs and being a decorated former multi-time international champion himself. He’s more than happy to make tough decisions,
dole out punishments when necessary, lay down the law, and, of course, make some cracking
match-ups throughout WOS Season 1 The brand new series kicks off at 5pm this
Saturday 28th July on ITV 1, and British wrestling fans owe it to themselves to be there from
the start. I’ve been Oli Davis, and that was wrestling.

  1. Saw Rampage Brown on YouTube and liked what I saw. Ditto, of course, Zack Saber, Jr., one of the best in the world that I enjoy on New Japan. Hope he shows up. Johnny Cruise (sp) if I remember him correctly, has no shame. Now we get see who Triple H tries to poach.

  2. WOS does look pretty awesome but another great UK wrestling company I enjoy watching is WAW which is ran by Paige's parents here in Norwich

  3. Can i hope to see it Stateside?
Because i have given up watching RAW. I cant take anymore Roman Reigns.
I have all but totally written off WWE because of it….
Please tell me i can fill this gap with actual talent and not a failed Chippendale dancer that performs a verbal abortion everytime they give him the mic. I hope they cock his fist full of a pink slip soon… otherwise i can guarentee my 35 year fandom with the WWE is over.

  4. Honestly + I don't know why, I'm excited for WoS, but for some reason I'm kinda a bit more excited for NXT UK though for some reason.

  5. If only the Wrestling World actually knew what Stevenson was like lol hope Grado does a Glencairn Pub Rules Match…

  6. 1:33 – Wait?! Is that El Fakidor?! I take my hat off to Alex Shane, no one has done more than him to get wrestling back on TV, going back to the TalkSport radio show, International Showdown, WrestleTalk on Challenge, etc. Hopefully he reads this as I'm sure this channel is still his baby.

  7. There is no revolution in Women's Wrestling… it is as unpopular and amateurish as ever. It's literally being shoved down our throats and you know it. When is the last time the Women put on a good match. Screw Feminism. Fuck Progressive BS and all those who push this society destroying agenda.

  8. What channel is this on in America? Or are we not cool enough for British wrestling. Lol. I'm kidding.

  9. For those in the Notification Squad who aren't getting their notifications:
1.) Click Unsubscribe and then Subscribe again.
2.) Click the bell to get all notifications
You should get your notifications back after that, I have to do it from time to time and it seems to work out. It's kind of like a reset for your subscription!

  10. 11. I hope someone here in the U.S. picks this show up. I've seen some of these people and I'm very intrigued.

  12. Where is kidcool , Robbie dynamite, Frankie sloan and James Mason from All-star. They are Britain's elite guys who paved the way. Get these guys signed up!!!

  13. love me some liam slater though i hate that he still uses a diving headbutt – makes me wince every time!

  14. Going to the final two tapings, it was well run & performers were quality! Bit of fun on the final episode too!

  15. I've meet most of the wos roster. . I saw Adam maxted on his pro wrestling debut with ldn wrestling and he is great in ring

  16. I was at the first four tapings in Norwich with my kids, and all I can say is…you guys are in for some god damned awesome action! Everything about it was top notch for sure.

  17. Grado is a fucking joke .
I was amused at first now the comic relief is tragic imo . I personally feel he brings it down a notch as the champion

  18. Would have been more excited if they didnt introduce womens wrestling

If any of them have any kind of talent AT ALL they'll sign with WWE in 2 weeks

  19. Considering how much has changed since the time of the pilot, with so much of the talent (probably) locked in by WWE UK, this is still quite exciting.😁

I'm not sure whether I can watch it where I live. But, I do look forward to work by Ospreay, Grado, Viper & Priestley in WoS.
⋯and to someone eating a Bull Hammer from Bennett. 😂

  20. Just watching tv and stumbled into this little gem. Makes me realise how bad wwe got from back in the day. Its became way to PG to a point they hardly do moves. Thank to WOS for bringing back what made wrestling great in the 1st place 👍

  21. i was really hoping you were going to say there will be no women on the show. they just simply arent that good and im tired of it being shoved down my throat as if they are
