Why? In the past, MMA was very clandestine; in fact it wasn’t even called MMA back then, rather it was associated with ‘anything goes’, and it didn’t have rules. Nowadays, it is a fully regulated sport where the integrity of the athletes is a fundamental component, and athletes can make it their legitimate profession. Martial Arts instills values like confidence, inclusion, equality, respect, and friendship in the participants of MMA Colombia. Who can participate in MMA? In general, it’s for all people – especially for women and kids as it is going to boost their confidence and give them tools for in the case that they would need to defend themselves, they would have an effective response. In 5 years, I see the sport becoming more and more professional and people considering it as a genuine career option, with it being more widely accepted in the city. Veronica, a lot of people think that MMA is only for men, but it is also for women, right? Yes, of course. Women are taught how to defend themselves, which gives us more self-confidence and makes us surer of ourselves. A lot of women are scared to start the sport because they think that due to there being more men, they may do more harm than good. Here when we train, we all know that we are friends and that we need to take care of each other; so a woman can enter no problem because the men will also look after them. Also, the sport is great cardio so it makes women feel better. What is the gym doing to support the local community? The 13th of November, we are launching a campaign on our social media in which we invite all of the community to become part of the competition team. The academy will be providing full sponsorship including training and transportation, and we will be choosing 2 winners, a man and a woman, on the 20th of January, here in the gym. THIS IS MEDELLIN EN 3!
