MMA Standing Self Defense Moves : How to Escape a Standing Front Bear Hug

JASON JEANETTE: Hi. I’m Jason Jeanette. This
is Daniel Klapheke from Elite Martial Arts of Middle Tennessee for Expert Village. This
is an escape from front bear hug. I’m trying to turn my zero distance grappling situation
back into at least another range, say a punching range or even a kicking range so that I can
strike, I can address other attackers, or I can fully disengage from the fight and run
if need be. All right, I got a bear hug from the front. I have a couple of things that
I need to deal with. He may be either picking me up which this whole technique will take
care of, anyway, so I don’t worry about that as much. Or, he may be trying to pull my hips
in and dump me. So as soon as he comes in, I need to think about possibly sprawling.
If I feel that I’m not going backwards, I can throw some knee strikes to the groin.
My main issue will be to get to his eyes. Straight in, just practice on your eyebrows
or your opponent’s eyebrows for practice, and straight down, strike, strike, just kick
to the groin, and then we disengage.

  1. why do you guys call this 'mma self defence'. all these moves are from traditional JUJITSU. not typical mma styles of bjj, mt or wresteling. is it because mma is popular??

  2. mgbrawl,,,, this IS self defense (eye gouges / strikes) , Muay Thai (clinch / knees) and Jits (head & arm choke)……it's called Mixed Martial Arts / MMA.
Maddancer18,,,, it depends on what type of Jits and where it comes from as to how you spell it. Somebody needs to do their homework.
