Training with Demian Maia – BJJ Diary

Jiu-Jitsu. London Fight Factory. I’m here with Demian Maia One of my Jiu-Jitsu heroes. Obviously, needs no introduction. UFC fighter. And multiple Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion. Demian, thank you for today, I really appreciate it. Just wanted to ask you, for people who want to do Jiu-Jitsu or people who are starting off, and people who want to be world champion like yourself a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion. What’s the best advice that you have for us? I think, you know it’s the joy of learning that makes you develop in Jiu-Jitsu. So you know… you can not have… your goal is not to be world champion. Of course, it is. You know in the first, in the surface level. But the goal is always to learn and always to develop, and that will lead you to be a world champion one day maybe. But that’s not the most important the most important is… to keep learning every day. In terms of yourself… what does Jiu-Jitsu mean to you? And what do you think it could give to… people who don’t do Jiu-Jitsu? I think Jiu-Jitsu means everything for me, of course. You know, that’s my life. And that changed my life, and… I think there is a… the best tool, in my opinion to… you know makes people’s lives better and the people around them. So, you know… I’m biased but I advise to every body to go training for sure. Oss! And… obviously, you know my coach Manxinha. Yeah of course. How long have you known him for? I’ve known Manxinha since 1998, more than 20 years. Wow. So you’ve been good friends for a long time? Yeah, a long time. A long time. Then he moved here, we lost contact for many years, and then we had… a friend in common. That, you know put me in contact with him again. Like 3 years ago. And then, I came last year and I came back again to do some training here. Nice, I remember last year when you came, I was here. And I really… I really appreciated that seminar. It helped my game a lot. Thank you. Because I remember you were talking about position over submission. Yeah. And I’ve always kept that in my mind as I roll. And I find it helping me… just in terms of keeping control. I’m not trying to rush too much to the submission, so thank you for that. I really appreciate it. Yeah, submission is a concept, it’s like a boxer… he’s not getting a fight thinking about the… I have some friends they are good boxers. Like… Junior Dos Santos What he says to me, its like… don’t try to go there and knockout the guy if you’re boxing. You build that, you know with jabs and cross and then the knockout suddenly happens. You know! Suddenly. You’re not looking for it. It’s something that you build… in your game. And the same with Jiu-Jitsu. You know, you start to build the position and then… the submission will happen at some point. Oss! And… Where can people find you on social media? At Instagram Twitter and Facebook fan page, just Demian Maia. Oss! Thank you Demian. Thank you very much. I appreciate it. Thank you. See you guys. Oss!
